Chelsea has a deep passion for students with different abilities or “special needs.” Unfortunately, it is said all too often that dancers need to fit into the dance class that is offered. At Turning Pointe Dance the classes are built around the needs of the dancers!
Chelsea has a Bachelor’s degree in special education and has 13 years experience working with special need students. As mentioned before, she was also privileged to teach for a program in Arizona for students with disabilities, where she used her unique abilities to help these students learn the joy of dance despite their difficulties. She sees the benefit of dance, specifically for special needs students. Dancers will have an opportunity to socialize, attend to adult instruction, learn musicality, exercise, and above all, enjoy themselves despite any limitations they may have.
Because of her skills, experience, and huge heart for these kids, Chelsea can accommodate the vast majority of students’ sensory, physical, and emotional needs. She has a lot of experience working with occupational therapists, physical therapists and even speech therapists to help meet the needs of students with differing abilities.
Please talk to Chelsea about the needs of your dancer so that she can lovingly and accurately decide which class is best for your dancer. Some students may be able to be included in the regular dance classes with some modifications or they also may need a specific class to best suit their needs. Chelsea feels strongly that ANY student should be able to dance if they have the desire to do so!
